WHAT IS AN ELECTRIC BEACH CRUISER

When it comes to an electric beach cruiser there are many aspects that are different from what you may see in a standard bike that doesn’t have a motor. See the picture below for what a standard beach cruiser may look like.

 

These bikes are characterized by widespread handlebars, an upright seat position and wide balloon tires.

With the widespread handlebars it puts your wrists and shoulders in a more comfortable and relaxed position as you ride the bike.

The upright seat position is formed by the angled downtube which allows you to sit comfortably and never be crouching over the bike.

The wide balloon tires on these bikes give you the best ride possible while maintaining your support as you go. Some may even have mountain bike tires that give you an even better ride.

HOW DO YOU USE ONE

 

There are usually a couple of different ways in which you can use an electric beach cruiser bike. To ride it there are typically 3 ways;

You don’t have to use the motor and can just pedal with no power like a standard bike does. All you have to do is get on and ride. 

The next option is to use full throttle, all you have to do is use your thumb and the motor will do the rest of the work for you, you don’t have to pedal at all! 

The final option is to use pedal assist. With this, you can pick what level you want the bike to be in and set that and pedal along with the motor. With this pedaling will be much easier as the bike glides along with the movement of your feet. Most electric beach cruisers will have 4 to 5 different modes to choose from with pedal assist. You will use the controller that is located on the handlebar to do this.

The most important thing to remember when getting on a bike is safety, so always make sure to wear a helmet. 

When you go to ride the bike you will want to check the battery first to make sure it is charged up and ready to go. Typically the battery will take 6-8 hours to reach a full charge. With the full battery you can go over 40 miles with most electric beach cruisers, that’s a lot of riding!

The best way to start riding is to get on the bike and begin pedaling, then you can choose what option you would like to ride in. I always recommend to start pedaling before you choose pedal assist or full throttle mode so that the bike doesn’t bolt out from under you too fast.

Then you are all set to sit back and enjoy the ride.

FEATURES TO LOOK FOR

 

There are a number of different things to consider when looking to purchase an electric beach cruiser bike to make sure that it will fit all your wants and needs. 

Most of these will come with a pretty powerful motor, usually a 250 or 500 watt motor. Either of these will be strong enough to get you up and over every hill you might want to climb.

They will also come with some type of display screen/controller where you can see how fast you are going, track your miles and see the battery life. You will want to look for something that is simple and easy to use.

Front and rear lights on the bike are another aspect that you will want on your bike. LED lights are the best option and you can easily turn them on and off with the controller that is located on the handlebars.

You also want to make sure that the bike is easy to get on and off of. Look for something that has a low step through design.

Look for an electric beach cruiser that also has the three riding options that were listed above. You will want to be able to use full throttle, pedal assist and the standard option for riding. The more ways you get to ride, the better.
